fmaw associates was founded by Mel Whiteside, a facilities management professional with over 20 years of experience across healthcare, education, civil service and custodial sectors. While Mel specialises in soft FM, she has worked across all areas of the industry, from frontline operations to strategic leadership. Through this work, she saw first-hand how organisations are often under pressure to grow or deliver without the structure or systems to support them.

She founded fmaw associates in response to a recurring pattern: FM providers delivering essential services, but struggling with compliance, team performance or operational processes. The business was created to offer meaningful, specialist support that reflects how facilities management really works on the ground.

Mel Whiteside – Director, fmaw associates

Known for her calm leadership style and practical approach, Mel brings deep industry insight and hands-on experience to every project. She has led large teams, managed operation delivery across multi sites contracts, managed multiple mobilisations, carried out internal audits, and supported FM teams during critical periods of change. Her philosophy is simple – do the work properly, support people on the ground, and never compromise on standards. fmaw reflects her commitment to ethical, respectful and realistic consultancy that genuinely makes a difference.
